What to Expect?

While the HeartMind philosophy guides every session, the methods I use are tailored to your individual needs. My background in physical therapy, therapeutic massage, Myofascial Release, Tai Chi, complementary manual therapies, Reiki, and personal training allows me to draw from a wide range of approaches—not to perform a technique, but to support your body's own capacity to heal.

Rather than asking, "Which modality do you need?" I begin by asking, "What is your body asking for today?"

John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach®

As an Expert Level Myofascial Release Therapist, MFR is the foundation of all treatment sessions. I use sustained, gentle pressure to soften and melt restrictions within the fascial system that may contribute to pain, limited movement, and long-standing patterns of tension. Rather than chasing symptoms, this approach seeks to uncover and address the deeper restrictions that may be influencing the entire body.

Therapeutic Massage

Massage can be restorative, calming, and deeply therapeutic. Depending on your goals, sessions may incorporate Swedish massage, deep tissue techniques, neuromuscular work, trigger point therapy, or orthopedic massage to reduce tension, improve mobility, and promote recovery.

Craniosacral Therapy

Using a light, attentive touch, Craniosacral Therapy encourages the nervous system to settle and the body to release deeply held patterns of stress. For many clients, this gentle approach complements more structural bodywork and supports a profound sense of ease and regulation.

Embodied Exercise

Drawing from more than fifteen years of experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant and decades of exercise study and implementation as a Personal Trainer, I often integrate therapeutic movement, gentle stretching, Muscle Energy Technique, and Strain/Counterstrain principles when they can help restore balance, improve function, and reduce discomfort. These are not exercises for exercise's sake—they are opportunities to help the body rediscover more efficient ways of moving.

Mindful Movement

The principles of Tai Chi and Qigong extend beyond the studio and into the treatment room. Awareness, posture, breathing, relaxation-in-action, and efficient movement all influence how we experience our bodies. At times, simple movement or breathing practices may become part of your session, offering tools you can continue using long after you leave the table.

An Integrated Approach

Although these approaches have different names, they share a common purpose.

To reduce pain without unnecessary force.

To restore movement without fighting the body.

To calm the nervous system.

To improve awareness.

To create the conditions for healing to unfold.

No two sessions are exactly alike because no two people are exactly alike. My role is not to fit you into a particular modality. It is to meet you where you are, listen carefully, and choose the tools that best support your journey toward greater ease, resilience, and wholeness.
