The Story Behind HeartMind Therapies

A logo often begins as a design. This one began as a conversation.

During my visit to Sedona, Arizona, to attend Myofascial Release III, I had the opportunity to spend time with Tribal Elders and the Medicine Man of the Hopi Nation. This was made possible by our guide, Clint Frakes of Sedona Sacred Earth. In those conversations, I heard a story that would quietly take root and, over time, become one of the central themes of Walking with Masters.

The Elder spoke of the Eagle and the Condor—two beings that, in his telling, represented the Heart and the Mind. Both are essential. Both are meant to live in harmony. Yet the Eagle always flies higher, reminding us that while the Mind is a remarkable gift, the Heart must ultimately guide the journey.

The following day, during a meditation at the beginning of the Myofascial Release III seminar, those words returned to me. Images and ideas that had seemed unrelated suddenly converged. What had begun as a story became a symbol, and that symbol gradually became a way of understanding my own life.

The HeartMind logo is my personal expression of that journey.

At its center is a stylized Taijitu (Yin-Yang), forming the face of Hanuman, the beloved embodiment of devotion, courage, and selfless service in the Bhakti tradition. Together they reflect the teachings of Master Won and Krishna Das, whose influence helped shape both my life and what became Walking with Masters.

Surrounding the image is a circle formed by an Eagle feather and a Condor feather, inspired by the Hopi story that first planted the seed. For me, they represent the ongoing practice of bringing heart and mind into balance—not choosing one over the other, but allowing each to fulfill its proper role.

Every element of the logo points toward the same understanding. As I state in the book, “HeartMind, Yin/Yang, Balance, Flow, Love, Presence. They were all pointing me towards the only path that truly mattered: ‘The trail of a true human being,’ the trail home.”

The pages of Walking with Masters tell the story of how those symbols came together. HeartMind Therapies is where they continue to be lived.
